What's New

v1.12.4 — October 27, 2026
Fixed: cross-references from another book. Moving into the next or previous book with the chapter arrows or a swipe, for example from Mark 16 to Luke 1, kept the previous book in the background. The chapter shown was right, but its cross-references, quotations and measurement underlines came from the wrong book (Luke 1:17 showed the references for Leviticus 1:17), and the address bar named the wrong book, so a refresh or a shared link opened the wrong chapter. Each chapter now tells the app which book it belongs to, so this cannot happen whichever way you arrive, including online, offline and from Continue Reading.

v1.12.3 — October 22, 2026
Copied and shared verses now use a plain hyphen between the reference and the verse, instead of a long dash: "யாக்கோபு 3:12 - என் சகோதரரே…". This applies to copying or sharing selected verses and to copying a verse with its cross-references.

v1.12.2 — October 21, 2026
Weights and measures now underline in every place they appear. The list of 638 places is now built from this site's own Bible text, which spaces some words differently from the copy first used (பத்துச் சேக்கல், ஐம்பது முழ), so about 80 places that were not underlined before now are, for example the shekels in Genesis 24:22 and the cubits in Exodus 27:13.

v1.12.1 — October 19, 2026
Three search fixes. When you tap a search result, the chapter now highlights the same words the results list showed. Before, forms such as தாவீதை, கர்த்தருடைய, அன்பை and என்னிருதயத்தில் were highlighted in the results but not in the chapter. If search cannot run, because there is no internet connection or the server did not answer, it now says so and offers a Try again button, instead of showing "Searching..." forever. And when you type quickly, the results always match what you typed last.

v1.12.0 — October 18, 2026
Biblical weights and measures, explained right where you read them. In the Tamil Bible, units such as சேக்கல் (shekel), முழம் (cubit), மரக்கால் (ephah) and தாலந்து (talent) now have a dashed underline. Tap one to see what it is in today's terms, for example a shekel is about 11.5 grams and a cubit about 45 centimetres, and how it relates to the other units. The Old Version uses one word for different measures in different places: படி is a hin in Exodus 29:40 but a bath in Isaiah 5:10. So each of the 637 places was checked one by one against the unit in the original text, and only those places are underlined. A name that merely looks like a unit, such as King Pekah, is never marked. The values follow the NIV table of weights and measures and are approximate. This works offline, and on the M'Cheyne daily reading pages too.

v1.11.3 — October 16, 2026
Search results now put the word you typed first. Searching "எலியா" (Elijah) used to list "எலியேசர்" (Eliezer) at the top, from Genesis, along with "எலியாம்", "எலியாப்" and other names that only begin the same way. Search now applies the rules of Tamil grammar to tell a different word from the same word with an ending added. So "எலியாவை", "எலியாவுக்கு" and "மோசேக்கு" count as the word you searched for, while lookalike names are moved down to "தொடர்புடைய வடிவங்கள்". They are still listed, after every exact match. "எலியா" now opens on 1 Kings 17:1.

v1.11.2 — October 3, 2026
Search is far more accurate for words that begin with a vowel. Until now, searching "அம்பார" also returned "நம்பார்கள்", and "அவர்" returned "ஆண்டவர்", because the sound being searched for happened to sit inside a different word. A search now matches only where a word begins, or where it has fused onto என், உன், தன் or another possessive, so "இருதயத்தில்" still finds "என்னிருதயத்தில்". Across the most common searches this removes thousands of wrong results, and brings back correct ones that they had been crowding out. Hard words are also underlined in more of their forms: in Psalm 125, "ஆகாமியத்தின்" now shows the meaning of "ஆகாமியம்", and the same goes for about three hundred other words that change their ending this way.

v1.10.6 — September 17, 2026
Tamil page titles rewritten so the site can be found the way people actually search. A chapter page now names itself three ways at once — "மத்தேயு 5", "மத்தேயு அதிகாரம் 5" and "Matthew 5 in Tamil" — and the headings match. The home page and the Tamil book list now say "தமிழ் பைபிள்" as well as "தமிழ் வேதாகமம்", since both are in common use. The Bible text is untouched, and the Old Version book names stay in the navigation and breadcrumbs exactly as printed.

v1.10.5 — September 17, 2026
The numbered books are now easier to find on Google. Books like II பேதுரு and I சாமுவேல் are printed in the Old Version with Roman numerals, but almost everyone searches with ordinary numbers — "2 பேதுரு". Those pages were never matching. Their page titles and headings now lead with the ordinary-number form while keeping the Old Version name alongside it, so the page is found either way. Nothing changes in the Bible text itself, and the Old Version name stays in the navigation as before.

v1.10.4 — September 4, 2026
Two fixes to cross-references. Opening a verse from a search result and then tapping இணை வசனங்கள் showed "no cross references" even where the verse had them — and in some cases showed another book's references instead, without any sign that they were wrong. Both are fixed: a verse opened from search now behaves exactly like one opened by browsing. Word meanings also no longer mark an ordinary word as a hard word — வசனம் and தாவீது were being underlined and given the meanings of அசனம் and தாவு.

v1.10.3 — August 20, 2026
Word meanings now recognise inflected words. Tamil changes a word's ending as it inflects — அப்போஸ்தலர் becomes அப்போஸ்தலருடைய, துர்ச்சனர் becomes துர்ச்சனரோடு — and the glossary previously only matched the exact base form. Around half the glossary is affected, so a hard word often went unmarked simply because it appeared in an inflected form. The glossary now uses the same sound-based matching the Tamil search already uses, so the word is underlined whichever form it takes; tapping it shows the base word and its meaning.

v1.10.0 — August 20, 2026
Quotations now work offline: if you have downloaded the Bible for offline reading, the quoted Old Testament passage still appears — in red, with its full text — when you open the cross-references with no internet. Cross-references themselves still need a connection, so offline you will see the quoted passage on its own. Nothing to do: the update arrives quietly the next time you open the app online, and there is no need to download the Bible again.

v1.9.9 — August 19, 2026
Direct Old Testament quotations marked: cross-references mix true quotations with looser thematic links, so the passage a New Testament verse actually quotes is now shown in red and labelled, right inside the cross-reference list. Open the cross-references on a verse such as Matthew 4:4 and the quoted passage stands out from the rest. Covers 702 quotations across 338 New Testament verses. Can be turned off in Settings.

v1.9.7 — August 1, 2026
Offline reading fixed: the downloaded Bible now stores the Testament, Book and Chapter menus too, so you can browse to any chapter with no internet. Previously the verses were saved but the menus were not, leaving the screen loading. If you downloaded before this update, tap "Re-download" once on the home screen while online.

v1.9.6 — July 21, 2026
Sharper Tamil search: a word you search for no longer matches when it only appears buried inside an unrelated word (for example கையால் no longer turns up verses that merely contain ஆகையால்). Word-fusion matching for words that begin with a vowel is unchanged.

v1.9.5 — July 21, 2026
Tamil search now understands word-fusion (sandhi): searching a word finds it even where it has merged with the previous word — for example இருதயத்தில் now finds என்னிருதயத்தில். Matched words are highlighted in the results.

v1.9.4 — July 21, 2026
Smarter multi-word search: type a few words and any verse containing some of them now appears, with the verses matching the most words shown first — so a half-remembered phrase still finds the verse. Every matched word is highlighted, and a display glitch that left a stray dot after some highlighted Tamil words is fixed.

v1.9.2 — July 11, 2026
One-year M'Cheyne Bible reading plan: a "Today's Reading" card on the home screen with the day's four chapters and a reading streak, plus clean daily pages to read them all in one place. Personalise your reading with six accent colours and a new Sepia background (alongside Light and Dark). Smarter Tamil search that also finds a word's other forms and shows exact matches first. A refreshed, see-through chapter navigation bar, and the correct browser-tab title on every chapter.

v1.9.1 — June 29, 2026
Smarter search keyboard: on supported devices, the keyboard now matches your reading language when you open search.

v1.9.0 — June 27, 2026
Search improvements: the keyboard now opens automatically when you tap search, a one-tap ✕ clears what you typed, and your last 5 searches are remembered for quick re-use.

v1.8.2 — June 18, 2026
New Tamil word meanings added to the dictionary. Plus refreshed page typography, clearer site navigation, and a more reliable homepage.

v1.8.1 — June 16, 2026
